All soaps are made by Sunflower in small batches if we have what you are looking for in stock, it will be shipped right out. If we do not, it will take about 2 weeks to ship. The important thing about soap is the balance of moisturizing and cleaning oils. Scents are relative although citrus scents sometimes soften the soap or dissipate quickly so I tend to make these on a made to order basis. These are “vegetarian” soaps in that no animal based oils are used.

Oily to Normal Skin Soaps

Basic Soap

This soap is just a good basic cleansing soap. Made with coconut, palm, and soy oils. Available scented or unscented.

Touch of Hemp

This soap is slightly more moisturizing than the basic soap. We have
added a little hemp oil to lessen the drying properties. A good winter soap for people with normal skin. Available scented or unscented.

Hand Milled Soaps

Hand milled soap is the original form of recycling.  It that the soap is made by taking already made soap, grinding it up, melting it and adding scent and additives such as dye or clay. Our hand milled soaps are made from the  “ends” of all the others. Milk is added to add a smooth feeling. This is the only form of any animal fat that is used in any soap. The advantage of a hand milled soap is that the scents tend to be much stronger and oils that burn off in the soap making process due to high temperatures can be used in hand milled soaps.

Normal to Dry

Mary Jane’s Hemp Soap

Lots of hemp oil in this one. Great for dry skin. It is a very mild soap The hemp oil adds a green color to the soap. Available scented and unscented

Tried and True Scents

These are the most popular scents for the soaps, but almost any scent listed on the bath salts page can be used. Some translate to soap better than others as the oils in soap affect scents differently than bath salts. If you see one there you would like to try here please send me a note.

Amber
This is one of Sunflower’s favorite pure scents. It has a woodsy smell with a slightly sweet overtone. It works well in all of the soaps.

Bay Lime

Bayberry scent with a touch of lime added as an astringent. This is usually considered a masculine scent. It works well with all of the soap types.

Dusky Rose
A Victorian type scent. It contains rose, a touch of patchouli and a slight sweetening blend.

Gardenia
Sweet gardenias, to remind you of summer days. This works well in the basic and the touch of hemp soaps.

Jasmine Tea

Green and black tea, jasmine oil and and jasmine petals go into this soap. It is a delicate scent and works best in   the Basic and Touch of Hemp Soaps.

Kutter’s Soap
Inspired by a friend who is a chef. This scent is an awakening scent. It has a blend of light citrus overtones with a lingering herbal base. Good for men or women. Available in Touch of Hemp only at this time.

Lavender
The old standby. Lavender has been used in soaps for hundreds of years. It is associated with a clean scent. Works well in all of the soap types.

Mulled Apple Cider
This contains cinnamon, apple fragrance oil, nutmeg and a touch of cloves. This works very well in all the soaps types.

Orange Cranberry
Sweet orange and tart cranberry combine in the soap to leave a very clean scent. Not too sweet.  Best in the Basic and Touch of Hemp soaps.

Patchouli
Excellent in all of the soaps. This is a strong Patchouli, not overpowering. Suitable for both men and women.

Vanilla
A true vanilla bean scent. It is not too sweet. This works well in all of the soaps but changes the soap color to chocolate brown. A friend once tried to eat a sample thinking it was chocolate. This is a property of vanilla and as a result this scent cannot be dyed.

General Information about Hemp Oil

Probably by now everyone has heard and read the Hemp is not pot information. But what some may or may not know is hemp oil is quite versatile and is refined into several grades including a food grade oil. However, it is presently illegal to farm industrial grade hemp in the United States.  Hemp products like cloth, thread, clothing and oils may be imported and used in manufacturing other products. We cannot in all honesty say our products are 100% “homegrown”.  We buy our oil from Canada where the processing is held to strict guidelines.

For information on hemp and it’s many uses visit the Links page . There are several links to various hemp growers and manufacturers’ groups.   If you feel that this should be a viable cash crop in the United States, please let your congressman know. That is what they are there for  is to listen to the people who voted for them.
